We all know that during the holiday season the sweets and snacks come out in full force. This can pose a problem to keeping your teeth clean and cavity free. After eating a sugary snack the pH in your mouth drops to a level that causes cavities for 30 minutes. So, if you are continuously snacking on sweets throughout the day there is a good chance the pH in your mouth never returns to a neutral non-harmful level. I’m not saying to not eat the tasty foods available to us but to be aware of what you eat and how often you indulge. If you drink some water after eating the sweets the pH returns to neutral much quicker but the best way to prevent any problems is to brush 2 times a day for 2 minutes, floss daily and to keep your regularly scheduled dental cleanings. Here are a few more tips for the holidays and oral health. Happy Holidays!
